- In 1370, a man named Timur
Lenk och Tamerlane made himself khan of the area around Samarkand,
the largest city in Central Asia. During the following 30 years,
he conquered most of Central Asia, the Middle East, Northern
India and Southern Russia. Tamerlane's ultimate goal was to restore
the empire of Genghis Khan, whom he falsely claimed as his ancestor.
Genghis Khan, however, was much nicer than Tamerlane.
